How did you hear about Sucden?
I heard the name a long time ago while studying for my BSc. A couple of my fellow students joined the company's offices in Europe and I had a chance to hear about Sucden from their experiences.
What attracted you to apply for the Graduate Training Programme?
Once my mind was set on this specific financial services area, Sucden straight away attracted my attention. Secondly, I had come to brokerage from a different industry and the fact that the programme allowed me to learn about the business structure, major functions and much more about actual trading was very suitable for me.
What was the structure of the interviews and how many did you have to attend before you were finally selected?
There were two rounds of interviews. At my first interview I was seen by the Financial Director and the Human Resources Manager. They wanted to see who I was and introduce the company and the business. The second round involved seeing the Managing Director, several Trading Managers and a broker. All were quite different personalities and had their own views on business, which was an interesting challenge and created a productive talk that made me think more deeply about the career in brokerage.
Why did you decide to join Sucden?
Sucden is one the leading brokers in UK and therefore has an established business culture and set approach towards its employees and their development. I knew I would enjoy working with experienced and talented people. Furthermore, I knew that Sucden was developing business within the Eastern European region and I liked the opportunity to use my mother tongue and cultural knowledge.

What are the qualities needed to be successful in this field?
Good communication skills and the ability to work in a team. Attention to detail, an understanding of what clients want, knowledge of different markets, as well as the ability to multi task. I also believe that people with developed intuition make successful traders.
What was the most interesting part of the programme?
I had a chance to participate in several projects while on the different desks. Each of those projects gave me a deeper insight into specific markets and helped me to develop a clear picture of how things work in different sectors.
What was the most challenging part of the programme?
I think the FSA exams were difficult; however the most challenging part comes after finishing the programme, when the real work starts!
What would you say are the most important skills and knowledge that you acquired during the programme?
I think my ability to work as part of a team and obviously my communication skills, not only in general but business-wise have been enhanced. Additionally attention to the detail and my ability to multi-task has improved.
